The biggest change between the 3010is are the speakers they replaced is their physical size. So I could have the basement as one zone, 1st floor speakers as a second zone and 2nd floor as a third zone. I’m curious if you have the same type of flexibility with LMS and PiCorePlayer? The only limit I’ve seen with mopidy is lack of integrations with some music sources. I did not use the HA Mopidy add on, as it didn’t seem like a good use of HA resource and I don’t believe you can run multiple copies to provide multiple music streams. HA is used to simply provides a means to access the Mopidy Iris interface and to provide control for connecting the speakers to individual streams. If you're hooked on the idea of wireless audio, but don't want to replace your perfectly capable wired speakers with the wireless kind, a digital media adapter may be the way to go. These adapters bridge a computer or mobile device to a home theater receiver either by WiFi or Bluetooth wireless. Although these digital media adapters work well and are highly affordable, they're often not as robust in terms of features and connectivity like with control systems. If you own a newer home theater receiver, you can harness its multi-room/-source features without the need to incorporate a switch.

You can also go with Roku; it doesn't offer a single surround system, but sells three inexpensive speakers that work very well together. You can combine the Roku Streambar Pro with Roku TV Wireless Speakers for the rear channels and a Roku Wireless Subwoofer into a single surround sound system for about $480. That grouping is easy to set up and sounds surprisingly powerful for the price.

A modern home theater receiver may be able to handle 4K/UHD movies and accommodate a slew of HDMI devices, which is great for the TV and movie lover.
